Milan & Turin 2010

By STTS

The Scottish Tramway and Transport Society’s visit to Milan and Turin in 2010 offered us a fascinating opportunity to explore two of Italy’s most significant urban transport networks. The trip provided an excellent chance to experience the contrasts between Milan’s extensive modern tram system, one of the largest in Europe, and Turin’s impressive network which blends historic vehicles with contemporary rolling stock. Members enjoyed observing the operational practices of Italian public transport, examining the infrastructure and depot facilities, and experiencing firsthand how these major cities have maintained and developed their tramway heritage whilst meeting modern passenger demand. The trip remains a memorable highlight in the Society’s programme of overseas visits, demonstrating the enduring appeal of continental European tramway systems to transport enthusiasts.
