Leipzig 2013

By STTS

Another visit to Germany in 2013, this time The Scottish Tramway and Transport Society went to Leipzig to discover another extensive and historical tramway network. Leipzig’s system, operated by Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe, offered an impressive showcase of urban light rail development, featuring a comprehensive network that serves the city centre and extends into surrounding districts with a mixture of street-running and reserved-track sections. The visit included exploration of various routes through Leipzig’s historic centre and into residential and industrial areas that demonstrate the tramway’s vital role in daily urban mobility. Combined with the charm of the historic centre, good company, and the city’s welcoming atmosphere, the trip proved to be a rewarding and memorable addition to the Society’s travels.
